In a nutshell, in your code, the first one is just assigning a value to the “showtime” element while the second one is calling a function showTime with no parameters.
In short, the first one is just setting the HTML value of a DOM element while the second one is a function.

value of this was when the function was defined. In the case of
function(this, that) calls, the value of this will be the DOM element
corresponding to that, and the value of that will be undefined.
When to use a function?
When you want to pass an argument. The function always returns a value, but in the case of getElementById() it won’t return anything.
In other words, the function would make more sense in that example:

}
And you would call it like this:
function showTime() {
var element = document.getElementById(“showtime”);
