In either October or November I was going to make a cyberpunk performance outfit for Halloween, or possibly the convention in March. The idea was to outfit a character of my choosing in a space suit, and be able to take it off once the performance started. I found a suit (a costume) somewhere and would totally wear that for costuming if I could make it work. I could not put the suit together, as my skills in sewing are fairly limited, and I’ve never really tried. My hope was that it could be done without much knowledge or experience in sewing, as long as the costume itself would be fairly simple to construct. At the time, I wasn’t sure if I was going to have a real person (actor) in the suit. Instead, I had an idea of a character, and wanted to make a costume to be a part of the story. I started by sketching out different costumes and playing with the shapes, using a template and paper to make the design a bit more than a picture. I printed the sketches out on a CD, and reworked the costumes into a sewing pattern and some patterns. I designed this suit so that it could be taken off, as it was going to be like an animatronic suit, where an actor could be inside it. I designed the suit so that the arms came apart and when the character was in place, it could be attached by a few simple fasteners. I put the patterns on a page to scale, and looked at how to put the costume together. I went to a craft store and bought materials: black and white stretchy fabric, elastic (to make the belt, and adjust the arms if needed), scrap fabric scraps to wrap around the arms and neck of the suit. I could have used elastic but I’m cheap as hell and didn’t want to pay $20+ a roll of it. I bought stabilizers for making fabric prints and patterns. I would use the stabilizers but they would stretch the fabric, so I wanted to make sure I had the fabric ready. I bought a length of black fabric, and used it to create a pattern for the suit. We show that GII generically allows for a probabilistic form of inductive reasoning, enabling it to reason probabilistically about a set of discrete hypotheses, a task which has previously been considered intractable due to the lack of a linear-time inference algorithm. GII’s generality allows it to leverage the previously held assumption that the set of discrete hypotheses can be effectively encoded as a probabilistic DAG (i.e. probabilistic Directed Acyclic Graph). We also present a comparison of the performance of GII with other approaches on a range of inference problems in the ISDA framework, including the Statistical Temporal Graph (STG). The results show that while GII is generally comparable to these approaches, when reasoning about a set of discrete hypothesis, it is significantly more efficient.
