Available on PlayStation 4 and Windows PC on November 23, the season launch will feature the new Player Impact Engine (PIE), which provides deeper ball physics and controls, with the ability to get up close and personal with the ball.
Below are answers to frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the new in-game engine:
What is the new Player Impact Engine?
Players are more in-depth, realistic and responsive. Players have individual intelligence. The way they move, use their vision and run towards the ball is more realistic, agile and responsive.
Players also react to the moment they are close to the ball, whether they are in the air, on the ground or a mix of both.
All aspects of the game have been improved to reflect the fact that the human body is capable of movement at a speed far greater than what we see in the world around us.
What is the aim of this new, updated player movement and reaction engine?
The goal of PIE is to make FIFA player-versus-player more intuitive and realistic, and more fundamental to the game experience.
Why does this new engine react differently from previous versions?
This is the first time EA SPORTS uses PIE, so we want to test the game with a diverse range of players and to create a real-life football engine.
Why did EA introduce this new engine at such an early stage of development?
EA SPORTS has invested a lot of resources to developing the PIE for FIFA 22. We need to know how the game feels and reacts to our players before we begin to iterate on the engine. It’s an opportunity for us to make sure the engine is right for our players.
Why was motion capture included in this new engine?
EA SPORTS works with motion capture facilities around the world. The amount of data we gather from these facilities is incredible, and the technology allows us to track movements that we couldn’t track before.
These real-life movements are then translated into in-game movements.
The game will have even greater depth and realism.
What is this new physics engine?
The engine uses the same 4K Vertex Shading technology as FIFA 18, to improve player visuals and recreate real-world player movement.
Why did EA introduce “ghost players” for the first time?
