Rails4 – new action in background job
I’m using Rails 4 with the new :job and :environment
For many activities that I need to run, I run a background job that will update some records.
In Rails 3 I used to define a new method in my model:
MyApp::Job.enqueue(self.class.name, :off_site, self.id)
In Rails 4 it seems like Rails is trying to apply the behaviour to my entire class so I changed it to the following:
This also worked in Rails 3.
But now in Rails 4 it’s seems like it is applying the :job to the class.
Is there a way to make it just apply it to the execute_offsite method?
The reason you are seeing this behavior is that the execute_offsite method is actually a job.
So it gets enqueued and then enqueued again in the model class.
You can force it to be a singleton job by removing the job declaration (enqueue:) from the method:

Clyburn said, “Well, we know where this process will end. It will end with a Supreme Court decision coming down that says the federal government is not allowed to go into your home, into your bedroom to know who you are, where you live. It will end with a Supreme Court decision that is going to decide what your community looks like. And they are going to write the rules in terms of people who they will choose to serve on the Supreme Court. And they are going to write the rules in terms of who is going to fill the Cabinet. We need to remember that. And we need to keep reminding our folks out there about that.”
He added, “They have had this desire to have some extraordinary outcomes when it comes to the census. They want everything to be on the ballot. And their goal is to dilute the votes of millions of people. We have lived through one of these, the House passed the Patriot Act during the most critical time in our history when the attacks happened, and we know what happens when you get a president who is not into the Constitution. They are not willing to admit that we have a problem here. They want to fix it with legislation that is not going to be good for the country.”
