Usage of “feel like” and “feeling like”

I’m not sure if I understand the usage of feel like and feeling like correctly.
For example, if I say:

It feels like it will rain today.

It’s feeling like it will rain today.

To me, it sounds strange to use feel like.
Is there any difference in meaning?

I think the difference is that feel like carries a specific reference, while feeling like does not.

It feels like it will rain today.

You’re referring to something that you can easily ascertain, usually by its weather patterns. You’re probably pretty sure that the weather will indeed rain today, or at least that it’s not unlikely. You could also say “It feels like it will rain, we just need to wait for the clouds to pass.”

It’s feeling like it will rain today.

You could be referring to anything that is merely indicative of something else (like a stomach ache), but you’re not certain that it will happen. It could be that you have no idea if the weather will rain, or if it will rain today.
